Ingredients
1 cup of Maxigenes Full Cream Milk Powder, premade and warm
1 sachet of instant yeast
3 Tbsp brown sugar
2 Tbsp melted butter
1 Tsp table salt
2 ¼ cup plain flour + more for dusting
¼ cup baking soda whisked into 3-4 cups warm water
1 egg
coarse salt
Method
- In a mixing bowl, gently whisk warm milk, yeast, brown sugar, butter and salt. Stir in the flour until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead approximately 15 times.
- Return the dough to the bowl and drizzle with oil to prevent sticking.
- Cover the bowl and set aside for an hour to rise in a warm place.
- When the dough has risen, press the dough back down and divide into 6-8 sections. Roll each section into a long and skinny rope, folding into a pretzel shape.
- Mix the baking soda and warm water, and dip into baking soda solution and place on lined baking sheet.
- Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with salt. Bake at 230 degrees Celsius for 10-12 minutes.
- Serve warm.
